Adam Stephen Schmolzi

With immense sorrow, we announce the passing of Adam Stephen Schmolzi, 32, of Portland, Oregon on July 22, 2026, while held in his momma’s arms and surrounded by love. He received his Last Rites at OHSU where he was beautifully supported in his fight against Cystic Fibrosis. Adam was born in Osage Beach, Missouri on November 10, 1993, beginning his life in Camdenton, Missouri. He later moved to North Carolina for cutting edge CF treatments and ultimately settled in Sedalia, Missouri where he attended Sacred Heart School, became a proud member of JROTC, graduated Smith Cotton High School and began chasing his dream to be a firefighter as a volunteer at Sedalia Fire Department. Upon graduation, Adam married the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Lanie (Wyatt) Schmolzi and although they eventually went separate ways, their love for each other always remained. He then moved to Newport, Oregon and worked hard to earn his certification as an Emergency Medical Technician and Volunteer Firefighter. His goals were always to serve his community. Adam was passionate about his volunteer work, earning the nickname ‘Radar’ and receiving the 2016 Firefighter of the Year Award from Seal Rock Fire Department in return for his dedication; this would be one of his proudest moments. He also loved volunteering at Oregon Coast Aquarium, Newport Police Department and spending time serving his community neighbors. He had a true heart for service. Adam was welcomed into his peace by his buddy and Gran, Janice Finks, his Pops, Stephen Finks, his grandpa, John Schmolzi and was soon joined in peace by his dad, Russell Schmolzi. He is survived by his devoted momma, Wendy Schmolzi and her partner, Heather Leigh, brother, Ross Schmolzi, sister, Micaela Lynn Bieber, nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, and cousins, all who loved and supported him and his lifelong battle against Cystic Fibrosis. Adam will be remembered for his enormous heart, his desire to serve, his tremendous love of family, his unique style and his ability to overcome with humor, as his Gran taught him! As well, the special relationship he shared with his momma, where he could be authentic, playful, and where knew he was unconditionally cherished and loved, will always be treasured. He will always be her beautiful boy, her pride and joy, her Bubaloo. Adam Stephen Schmolzi, well done, son. You are clear to go home. We have it from here.
