March 11, 1943 - April 14, 2017
March 11th 1943 to April 14th 2017 Burkhard “Burk” Brandt (74) passed away with his family around him on Friday, April 14th. Burk was born in Berlin, German during World War II. He lived in Berlin with his mother, Irmgard Brandt and older sister Christel Brandt. Burk’s first flight was when the United States flew him and other children out during the Berlin Airlift. Burk saved his money and boarded a freighter full of circus animals traveling from Germany to America. He instantly fell in love with America. He returned to Germany and finished his schooling. After school, he returned to the United States and lived in California. He followed his dream and became a professional engineer. His engineering career was put on hold as he joined the United States Army. He served in the 3rd Infantry Division during the mid 1960’s. His engineering career continued successfully after serving in the Army. Burk was recruited and joined Hewlett & Packard (HP) when the Corvallis, Oregon facility was built. He traveled the world for business. During a business trip to Bangkok, Thailand he met the love of his life, Lore Brandt. They were married for 37 years. Burk was extremely proud to become an American citizen. He always had an American flag somewhere visible. Burk left HP and started his own engineering consulting business. He continued this business until his “sort-of” retirement. Burk loved spending time with his family. He loved visiting the coast and hiking around Oregon’s beautiful lighthouses. Burk will also be remembered for his tremendous love of trains. Many families have fond memories of Burk showing his beloved model trains. His sister, Christel, preceded him in death. He is survived by: his wife Lore, son Stephan Brandt, son Burk Brandt, two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 11AM, Tuesday, April 25th at the Church of Jesus Christ and Latter Day Saints (Walnut Blvd), Corvallis, Oregon.
