December 9, 1971 - October 23, 2016
Daniel P. Dooley passed away at home in Philomath, early in the morning on Sunday, October 23rd, 2016 at the age of only 44 yrs. He had struggled through a challenging battle with cancer for over a decade. He leaves a tremendous void in the lives of all the friends and family who loved him, but especially his immediate family: his wife of 21 years, Elizabeth, his daughter, Juleia, and his son, Devin. Dan was born in 1971 at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, in Dayton, Ohio. He was welcomed into this world by his parents, George and Betty Dooley and his sisters, Jennifer and Deborah. Soon after his birth, the family moved to Corvallis, Oregon. In 1984, a blended family eventually led to having 10 siblings. Dan graduated from Crescent Valley High School in 1990. There he enjoyed playing basketball and being co-captain of the football team his senior year. He also loved hunting and fishing with family and friends. He graduated from Oregon State University with a degree in Geology in 1994. Dan, as his friends and family refer to him, met the love of his life, Liz, on a blind date set up by mutual friends and they got married in 1995. They lived in Portland, Oregon for several years, where their son, Devin, was born before moving to Philomath. Dan worked for the Oregon Department of Transportation, in Corvallis for over 10 years. He continued to love hunting and fishing, enjoyed sampling various “cold ones” with his family and friends, watching any OSU Beaver sporting event and working on numerous construction projects. Dan selflessly built decks and replaced roofs for others, as well as electrical wiring work and various logging activities. His physical activities were forced to change as his battle with cancer progressed. No matter what, he always loved spending time with his family -- whether it was supporting his children’s activities, working on outdoor projects around the home, or watching sports and movies together. Considering what Dan and his family endured throughout their battle, it is amazing how he continued to remain positive and felt he needed to shield those outside his immediate family from realizing how tough the struggle was. Dan’s struggle is over, but those who know his family understand their challenges will persist. Funeral services will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Corvallis, Oregon on Friday, November 4th at 1:00 pm. Dan’s request was that you come in comfortable attire, wearing the least amount of black as possible. He was most comfortable in his Carhart jeans and romeos. On Saturday November 5th, we will gather together as we honor Dan and his love of OSU football, by throwing him a “Tailgate Farewell.” This will be held at Philomath High School, in the Auditorium, from 1-4pm. Casual attire or your “Beaver Gear” is welcome. In lieu of flowers, please consider the needs of the family by contributing to, “The Dan Dooley Medical Fund,” at any Citizens Bank or the “Dan Dooley” GoFundMe medical account at: www.gofundme.com/gnsxkc .
