    David Johnson

    March 22, 1937 - October 3, 2007

David Johnson passed away calmly at his home in Philomath on Oct. 3. He is survived by his wife, Patricia D’Andrade; sister Lynn Johnson; mother Dorothy Johnson; and uncle Theodore Johnson of Minnesota. David was born in Tyndall, S.D., grew up in Minnesota, and served in the U.S. Army in Germany from 1959 to 1961. He will be much missed by family and many friends. His career, after his travels around the world in the 1960s, included positions as research librarian at the A.G. Bush Library of Management and Organization at the University of Chicago; reference librarian at the Economics and Public Affairs Division of the Research Libraries of the New York Public Library, archive; archivist of the Arica Institute in New York; and head of reference for the New York law firm of Proskauer, Rose, Goetz and Mendelsohn. He came to the Corvallis-Philomath area in 1997 to take the position of business and economic development librarian at Oregon State University’s Valley Library, and was the library’s liaison to the Corvallis Economic Development Partnership. He retired in 2002. David practiced t’ai chi and encouraged the formation of a t’ai chi push hands practice group in Corvallis. He was a life-long birder, taught from an early age by his father, Carl Johnson, and liked to bird at Finley Wildlife Refuge, along the coast, and at Malheur. He greatly enjoyed discovering Oregon. A constant reader, he was a frequent visitor to the Corvallis-Benton County Public Library. Memorial contributions may be made to the Corvallis-Benton County Public Library Foundation.
