David Solomon King January 25, 1936 - August 25, 2013 David was born on Jan. 25, 1936, in Wooster, Ohio, to Charles and Martha (Fischer) King. He attended Smithville High School from 1950 to 1954. He relieved a Bachelor of Arts degree in physics from Manchester College in Indiana in 1965, and a doctorate in astrophysics from Indiana University in 1965. David taught from 1965 to 1993 in the University of New Mexico Department of Physics. He also worked as a visiting professor and consultant at Los Alamos National Laboratory through much of this time. He continued consulting in various positions at Los Alamos until his retirement in 1999. David moved to Philomath in 2003 with his wife, Mary Marsh-King. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lynda. Survivors include his wife; his son, Jonathan King of Rio Rancho, N.M.; and his daughter, Mary Anna King of Edgewood, N.M. There are eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He also is survived by a brother, Richard King of Wooster; and a sister, Barbara Cawthra of Akron, Ohio.
