Duane Leroy Hug April 16, 1935- May 27, 2014 Duane Hug died after a brief illness, May 27, 2014. Duane was born in Mt. Angel, 79 years ago and grew up working on the family farm. He was an avid outdoors-man, hunter and fisherman. He attended Willamette University and later, Oregon State University. It was at OSU, where he met and married his wife Sandy. After graduation, Duane was a science teacher but spent most of his career working as a research chemist for WahChang. Duane had two son by his first marriage. He and Sandy had two daughters. After retiring, Duane and Sandy enjoyed a “snowbird” life for many years. In between time spent traveling, they grew and shared a bountiful garden. Duane's love of fishing took him to Alaska 14 years in a row for family gathering/fishing trips. He continued to enjoy hunting, especially pheasant hunting in South Dakota with family and friends. Duane was a strong believer in sharing his love of outdoors and hunting ethics with youngsters. He volunteered as an instructor for the Oregon Hunters Association's Youth Shotgun Skills Clinic. Duane is survived by his wife; his sons, Rick of Lake Oswego and Larry of Denver; his daughters Kristi and Tracy, both of Washington; his twin brother Wayne and his sister, Barbara, both of AZ; five grandchildren and one great grandchild. A celebration of Duane's life will be held on the Oregon coast, Aug. 10. Please contact the family for details.
