Edith Whitson

December 14, 1926 - December 13, 2012

Edith lived in Albany. She passed away peacefully Thursday evening at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis, with her family at her side. She was 86. Edith was born in 1926 in Lakin, Kan., and graduated from high school in Garden City, Kan., where she met and later married Homer N. Whitson Sr. on June 22, 1946. In 1951, they moved together to Corvallis, where they raised four boys, Byrd of Corvallis, Homer Jr. of Corvallis, David of LaGrande and Emory of Albany. Edith was a loving mother, grandmother and sister. Her time was spent doing things she enjoyed: reading, gardening, feeding birds and putting together puzzles. But the thing Edith most loved was having her family around her. Edith was preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Rachael Killfoil; her husband, Homer N. Whitson Sr.; and her siblings, Charles, Fredrick, John, Nellie, Marie and Elizabeth. She is survived by sisters Rose Hands and Betty McLinn; her sons Byrd, Homer Jr., David and Emory; her two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Edith was loved by all her family and friends. She will be greatly missed. Services will be private.
