Eli Dewey Spencer

Sept. 1, 1934 — Dec. 17, 2013 Philomath resident Eli Dewey Spencer peacefully passed away Tuesday, Dec. 17, at his home, after battling cancer. He was 79. He was born in Corvallis to Casper and Olive Spencer. Dewey, as he was known, graduated from Alsea High School in 1954. He worked at the Digger Mountain Sawmill after graduation. In 1956, he began working as a millwright for Northside Lumber Company, where he was employed for 28 years. He later worked for his good friend Denny Alstott. He married Yvonne Harvey of Corvallis on July 1, 1956, and together they had two children, Cheri (Stouder) and Timothy. Dewey was very proud of his family. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and anything to do with being outdoors, along with watching his grandchildren. One of his favorite things was working on his Christmas tree farm in Alsea. He is survived by his wife, Yvonne; daughter, Cheri Stouder, and her husband, James; son, Timothy Spencer, and his wife, Kimberlee Spencer; and grandchildren Travis Spencer, Kevin Spencer, Sadi Stouder and Charlie Stouder, all of Philomath. A graveside service will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, at Alsea Cemetery. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Philomath Wrestling Program in care of Philomath School District, 535 S.19th St., Philomath, OR 97370.
