Gordon Ervin

Gordon William Ervin died Friday at his home in Corvallis at the age of 86. He was born in Kinsella, Alberta, Canada, to Walter and Ethel Ervin, and settled in Philomath at age 3. He graduated from Corvallis High School in 1939. He married Bernice Thompson on Nov. 30, 1940. Gordon joined the Army at age 20 and served in World War II in the 850th Aviation Engineer Corps from Sept. 5, 1942 to Oct. 14, 1945. After the war he became a naturalized U.S. citizen. He was employed as a logger until his retirement due to an accident in 1978. He was a lifetime member of the Elks. His hobbies included woodworking, reading, playing cards, fishing and hunting. Gordon was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice, brother Roy and sister Sigrid Martin. He is survived by his daughters, Kathy Anderson of Portland and Dana Saling of Corvallis, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from noon to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, at DeMoss-Durdan Funeral Home in Corvallis. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, at Willamette Memorial Park in Albany. Memorial contributions can be made to Benton Hospice Service.
