    Ingrid Monica Johnson

    February 23, 1946 - October 1, 2013

Feb. 23, 1946 — Oct. 1, 2013 On the morning of Oct. 1, Ingrid died in the Corvallis house she shared with her husband, Eric Johnson. Her death came as a surprise. The cause, a massive angiosarcoma of the atrium, had been diagnosed just a few days prior to her demise. She is survived by her husband; her brother, Roland Strolis; two sons, Chris and Mark Gustafson; and a niece, Danielle Strolis-Cruikshank. Ingrid was born in Hameln, Germany, to Alexander and Emily Strolis, Latvian refugees. The family moved to Seattle in 1950. Ingrid graduated from Shoreline High School, after which she attained a bachelor’s degree from Washington State University. Later she attained a bachelor’s in nursing from Oregon State University. A few years later she earned a Master of Business Administration. She also was a certified case manager. She worked as a nurse in Corvallis, Portland and the Tri-Cities. Then she worked as a case manager in the Tri-Cities and Corvallis. As those who knew her know, Ingrid’s passion was horses. She rode them, showed them and, to a degree, built her life around them. Her last significant horse-related outing was in August, when she and her horse, Leo, participated in an extreme trail clinic, where she was assisted by her niece, Danielle. Ing became an accomplished quilter who gave away each quilt she made. It is possible that some quilts will be on display at her memorial service. These are quotes from sympathy cards: “She was a true professional, but also knew how to have fun.” “I enjoyed working with Ingrid these past several years. I was always so impressed with her ongoing sense of humor during our challenging times. At work she was also a great role model on how to live life to the fullest.” “Ingrid was an amazing nurse and a wonderful co-worker.” She also was a wonderful wife and mother and friend. Ingrid will be remembered as being super-enthusiastic about life. She had a great smile. All of us will greatly miss her. A memorial service for Ingrid will take place at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, at The Arts Center, 700 S.W. Madison Ave. in downtown Corvallis. A reception will follow.
