James Marvin McRoberts passed away Wednesday at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis. He was born in Sultan, Wash. On Jan. 5, 1942, he married Lila Olivia Hanka, who grew up in Minnesota. After living in Ketchum, Idaho, he and Lila moved to Southern California, where he supported the war effort as a journeyman machinist helping to construct fighter planes for Lockheed Aircraft. In the late 1950s, he and his family moved to the San Francisco Bay area, where Jim worked for Lockheed Missiles and Space, contributing to the Gemini and the Apollo space programs. Jim is survived by his wife, Lila. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on Jan. 5, 2007. Jim is also survived by his children, Greg Harvey McRoberts of Milpitas, Calif., and Karen Olivia McRoberts Peck of Blodgett. Jim has two grandchildren, Stephanie Ann Spencer of Portland and Kristen Lynn Spencer of Palo Alto, Calif. Jim and Lila helped co-found Saratoga Country Club in the late 1950s, where they enjoyed their many friends and played golf, a game they both loved. In 2005, Jim and Lila moved to Utah and then to Corvallis, where they lived at West Hills Assisted Living Community. Jim led a most fortunate life. He is loved and will be missed by his family and friends. May he rest in peace.
