Julia Warren

Julia was born July 31, 1917. She was raised by her parents, Frank and Della Schraeder, on a small farm outside of Kokomo, Ind. She graduated from Kokomo High School. Julia went on to earn a degree at the International Business College in Fort Wayne, Ind. In 1943, she joined the U.S. Navy and served as a member of the WAVES during World War II. Julia was stationed in Hawaii, where she worked in cryptology. She married Thomas F.T. Warren on June 6, 1945. In 1946, she was honorably discharged from the Navy. In 1958, while stationed in Japan, they adopted a 5-year-old Japanese girl. In 1964, after Tom retired from the Navy, the family moved to Corvallis. Julia worked for the Corvallis School District for many years. She retired at age 70. Tom and Judy worked together on the Naval Cryptologic Veterans Association newspaper for many years. After Tom’s death in 1988, Judy continued to work on the NCVA newspaper. She was an avid reader, faithful follower of “Jeopardy!,” lover of “The Lawrence Welk Show” and loyal fan of the Oregon State University Beavers. She always looked forward to playing bridge with her friends. She is survived by her daughter, Susan King: grandson Ryan King and his wife, Amanda; great-grandson, Cameron; and a great-grandson due in November. She was preceded in death by her husband and three sisters, Miriam, Louisa and baby Schraeder. A funeral service will take place at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27, at the First United Methodist Church. Pastor Bonnie Parr Philipson will officiate.
