Feb. 25, 1925 - Oct. 16, 2009 LaVern D. Martin, 84, of Corvallis died Oct. 16, 2009. He was affectionately cared for in his home. He was born in Bassett, Neb., to Levi and Lottie Martin. They moved to Caldwell, Idaho, during the Depression. LaVern was in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1943 to 1946. He became a gunner specialist, and loved to fly. After five years in Caldwell, they moved to Hermiston, following the construction trade. LaVern later became a master cabinet maker, and, after moving to Corvallis, a real estate broker. LaVern met Madge in Denver, Colo., and they were married in 1945. After his service to his country, they moved to Caldwell, where LaVern worked with his father and brothers in the construction business. LaVern was from a family of seven, he being the fifth. They are all home with their Maker. LaVern is survived by his wife, Madge; sons Delmar Martin and his wife, Elizabeth Kalowski, and Peter and Alex Moeller; foster sons Gordon Worden and Rene Argueta and his wife, Liza, with daughter Sara and son Isack; foster daughter, Emilia Short and her husband, Greg Short, with children Emily, Victor, Amanda and Zachary; plus many nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends. LaVern loved helping people, the building trade and real estate. He owned Timber Town Realty in Philomath with his wife from 1980 to 1990. He also loved the outdoors - fishing, hunting and camping. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21, at Demoss-Durdan Garden Chapel. LaVern will be buried at Twin Oaks Cemetery following the service. Afterward, there will be a gathering with family and friends at his son's home on Colorado Lake. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in LaVern's name can be made to Benton Hospice Service, 2350 N.W. Professional Drive, Corvallis, OR 97330, or to the charity of your choice.
