Lory Tope

Corvallis resident Lory D. Tope passed away on Sunday, Nov. 6, at his home. He was 61. Lory was born in Port Angeles, Wash., to Laverne and Betty Tope. He attended and graduated from Pacific High School in Langlois/Port Orford in 1968. In April 1971, he entered into the U.S. Army, where he served two years as a pharmacy specialist. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and a Marksman M16. He married Patricia "Patty" Kennedy on Aug. 20, 1977, in Corvallis. Following his discharge from the Army, he worked in construction with his brother, Chris, until 1982. He then went to work for Rick Franklin Corporation, and was working there at the time of his death. His passions in life were gardening, crabbing, fishing, remodeling his home, and spending time with his family, especially his two beloved Bassett hounds, Dolly and Emma. He lived to work, and worked to live. He is survived by his wife, Patricia "Patty" of Corvallis; daughter, Rachel Deny (Devon) and granddaughter, Devani, of Klamath Falls; parents, Laverne and Betty of Yuma, Ariz.; brother, Chris Tope (Lonita) of Jefferson; sister, Carol Smith (Milt) of Langlois; one nephew; and numerous nieces. Memorial contributions can be made to Heartland Humane Society.
