Louise S. Rutland, 93, of Corvallis died Nov. 10 at Corvallis Manor. Louise was one of nine children born in Lexington County, S.C., to Lee and Minnie Gunter. She attended and graduated from Fairview High School in May 1939. Louise worked at the Fort Jackson Post Exchange, and met Calvaryman Paul Rutland. They were married in June 1943. Louise traveled across the United States with her new husband from August 1943 to June 1945 as they were moved to U.S. Army posts in Michigan, Kansas, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, Utah and Oregon. Camp Adair was their final destination. Louise started as an operator at Pacific Northwest Bell Co. in June 1945, retiring in 1981 after 36 years. She enjoyed traveling to visit family in South Carolina and Denver, Colo., and camping with family in Oregon following her retirement. Her last seven years, she enjoyed the community at West Hills Assisted Living. Survivors include her sons, Robert (Regina) of Philomath and William (Kathy) of Denver; her sister, Hazel Quattlebaum of South Carolina; grandchildren Michael Rutland, LeAnne Rutland, Shelly Morris (Roy), Nicole Bordwine (Royce), Colette Beneski (Steve), Russell Rutland (Valorie), Todd Rutland, Gary Rutland (Jessica) and Ryan Rutland (Erin); 14 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. All will cherish and remember her loving presence in their lives. A memorial service will take place at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 14, at DeMoss-Durdan Funeral Home and Crematory. Inurnment will be at Oaklawn Memorial Park. Louise frequently used Dial-A-Bus, and was cared for by professionals at The Corvallis Clinic. Donations in her name can be made to either.
