Paul Ortman

Paul Henry Ortman, 93, of Philomath died of lung disease on Friday at Corvallis Manor. Paul was born in Moundridge, Kan., to Henry and Katherine Ortman, and moved to Watts, Calif., as a child. Paul had a brother, Fred, and a sister, Barbara. He graduated with honors from University of Southern California, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a veteran of the Battle of the Bulge. Paul spent most of his career as a highway engineer for the County of Los Angeles. His hobbies were free-flight model aircraft, and photography. Paul married Evelyn Mary Bondie in 1962 in Las Vegas, and they lived in Southern California until relocating to Oregon in the late 1970s. They lived on Daisy Drive in Philomath. Mary passed away on Dec. 25, 2002. Paul was also preceded in death by his brother and sister. At the time of his passing, Paul was a resident of Corvallis Manor. He is survived by two nephews, Bob and John; a niece, Gayle; and their families. At Paul’s request, he was cremated, and a memorial service will take place in the spring.
