    Robert Nash

    April 6, 1922 - May 1, 2012

    April 6, 1922 — May 1, 2012 Robert Wyatt Nash passed away May 1, in Tucson, Ariz. He was 90. Robert was born in Corvallis to Jesse Hull Nash and Edna T E Wyatt Nash. His mother was a descendant of a pioneer Oregon family who came to Oregon from Iowa by wagon train in 1853. The family settled in the Philomath and Corvallis area. Bob was born and raised on the Nash family farm, located on Nash Road in the Plymouth community of Corvallis. He attended the primary grades at the Plymouth community one-room school, and later went to Corvallis Junior High and High Schools. In April, 1939 he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps and was assigned to Camp Mary’s Peak in Detroit, Oregon. He was discharged in April 1940. In November 1940 he joined the US Navy and was sent to San Diego for basic training. In January 1941 he was assigned to the USS Nashville (CL-43). He was reassigned to the US Navy base at Treasure Island, Calif., in October 1944; and was discharged as a Boatswain’s Mate Second Class in December 1946, having served a six year hitch. He worked as a plant operator for the East Bay Municipal Utility District, Oakland, Calif., and retired in April 1986. Following retirement, he moved to Arizona. He married Mary Castagna in November, 1945, and they had four children. On December 10, 1982, he married Dodie Lees, who survives him. In addition to Dodie, he is survived by his children (and their spouses), David C Nash (Sharon) of Suisun, Calif, Stephen E Nash (Paula), of Martinez, Calif., Kathleen Rogers (Robert)of Crockett, Calif., and John J. Nash (Laura)of Petaluma, Calif. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Jason Levine, Ryan Nash, Justin Nash and Randi Nash; stepsons Russell (Janet) of Graymer, Calif., and Richard Graymer of Louisana; and his siblings, Harold (Mary) Nash of New Jersey, Edward (Ruth) Nash of Stayton, and Melissa (Ray) Donner of Sequim, Washington. A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 11, at DeMoss-Durdan Funeral Home. Interment will be at Oaklawn Memorial Park.
