October 14, 1935 - July 7, 2010
Beloved wife, mother and teacher Suzanne Cleary went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 7, after a long battle with illness. Suzanne was born on Oct. 14, 1935, in Klamath Falls. Her parents, Hans and Amaly Frei, were immigrants from Switzerland. She excelled in school, and attended Oregon State University to pursue her dream of becoming a teacher. Suzanne graduated from Oregon State University with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education in 1957. She went on to teach in many schools around Oregon before moving back to Corvallis in 1970. She taught many years at Wilson Elementary School, and finished her career teaching mathematics at Highland View Middle School. Generations of students loved and admired her as a caring and patient teacher. While attending OSU, she met Bert Cleary, who became her husband of 54 years. Together they raised five children, and enriched the lives of countless others. Suzanne loved the Lord Jesus Christ, and spent her life encouraging others to accept Christ as their Savior. She had a passion for helping those in need, and a strong desire to serve the Lord. She had been a member of Northside Church since 1970. Suzanne loved sports, especially watching her children and grandchildren play. She was an avid bridge player, and an ardent Beaver fan. She enjoyed singing to the elderly, and for many years hosted prayer meetings in her home. Suzanne is survived by her husband, Bert; sons David Cleary of Salem, Doug Cleary of Victorville, Calif., Dan Cleary of Albany, and Bryce Cleary of Corvallis; and daughter Heidi Cleary of Portland. She has 15 grandchildren whom she dearly loved. She is also survived by her brother, John Frei of Dallas, and Rosemary Meyers of Tulelake, Calif. A memorial service will take place at 7 p.m. Sunday, July 11, at Northside Church. Pastor Kene Panas will officiate. All are invited. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Northside Church.
