June 17, 1932 - April 15, 2010
Virginia Mae Hurd joined her family in heaven on Thursday, April 15. Born to loving parents Jack and Ella Demo on June 17, 1932, in Minneapolis, Minn., Virginia was a remarkable woman who enjoyed a very full life. A nature enthusiast from the start, Virginia spent a joyful youth exploring the mountains of Banner, Calif., where her father was a gold miner. Her father instilled in her an appreciation for rock collecting that lasted a lifetime. In her teens, she and her family relocated to San Diego, Calif., where Virginia spent endless days in the sunshine, bodysurfing and cliff diving the warm ocean waters. Always a very kind and generous woman, she volunteered for many organizations throughout her life, including the American Cancer Society, Easter Seals and various Catholic Church charities. She was also known for her great love of animals. Some of Virginia’s greatest joys included gardening, antiquing, writing, painting and button collecting. Her enthusiasm inspired and influenced similar appreciations amongst her friends and family. A longtime resident of Corvallis, Virginia was the beloved, cherished and adored mother of seven, grandmother of seventeen and great-grandmother of 12. She touched many people’s lives in so many ways, sharing so much joy. In the spirit of Virginia Hurd, the family requests that to honor her memory, one might contribute to a charity, plant a tree, adopt a pet, start a garden, be kind to a stranger, or, simply put, pay it forward. A service will take place at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 24, at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. All are welcome.
