Wilma Hughes

Wilma Hughes, 86, passed away on Wednesday, July 11, 2012, of complications of Alzheimer’s disease at His House Adult Foster Care in Philomath. She was born in Corvallis to Anderson and Violet Taylor of Wren. Wilma met her future husband of 66 years when she was in the seventh grade at the one-room Harris Schoolhouse near the Harris Covered Bridge in Wren. She married Carl Burton Hughes on May 14, 1944, at Wren Community Church. Together they raised six children. She is survived by five of her children, Lyn Ahboltin of Meadow Vista, Calif., Keith Hughes of Seattle, Wash., Gale Hughes of Junction City, Kan., Lee Ann Julson of Philomath and Joy Gearhart of Lancaster, Calif.; and one brother, Elmer Taylor of Newport. She was preceded in death by daughter Kay Smith, 54, of Philomath; and sisters Mary Ellen Taylor and Donna Buck. A memorial service will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 14, at First Baptist Church, 335 S. 26th St., Philomath. A graveside service will take place at 1 p.m. Monday, July 16, at Wren Community Cemetery on Kings Valley Highway.
